I’m Linda Falkenstein, a writer and editor based in Madison, Wisconsin, and associate editor at Isthmus. In 2024 I won the “Holiday Spirit” award in StartingBlock coworking space’s cookie contest with this recipe using sorghum instead of molasses and sprinkling some sanding sugar on top for that old holiday spirit. But seriously, these are amazing cookies and you could use molasses; don’t feel a need to go out and buy sorghum. I also won a couple of vegan chili contests sponsored by the Alliance for Animals way back before COVID. But I don’t have recipes for those because when it comes to chili, I eyeball it.
